Save Lives With Stop the Bleed Training

Gain Certification and Essential Skills to Stop Life-Threatening Bleeding

Bleeding Is The Top Cause of Preventable Death After An Injury

What if you and your team had the know-how to alleviate suffering and preserve life in an emergency situation? Stop the Bleed training can help your organization accomplish this goal. No matter the speed of first responders, bystanders already on the scene will always have the greatest opportunity to save lives after a tragedy. Death from bleeding out can occur in mere minutes.

If someone in your workplace is facing life-threatening injuries, having a person nearby who knows how to stop the bleeding until help arrives is the injured person’s best chance of staying alive. With deep knowledge of the Stop the Bleed technique, you — or any other team member — can be that person.

About Stop the Bleed Training

Stop the Bleed is a nationally recognized training program that equips people to recognize, understand, and respond swiftly and effectively to life-threatening bleeding incidents.

What started as a grassroots effort is now promoted by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the American Red Cross as a way to help citizens and bystanders help each other after a tragic accident or event.

Stop the Bleed training courses don’t just teach theories. Students walk away with skills to implement a series of simple techniques that are designed to stop a person from bleeding out after a traumatic injury:

  • Calling emergency services (911)
  • Applying pressure with your hands
  • Packing a wound for bleeding control
  • Applying a tourniquet correctly

Our Training Program

Our Stop the Bleed program provides robust, skills-based safety training on how to stop life-threatening bleeding after a traumatic event. The program is also significantly flexible, allowing our instructors to tailor classes to the needs of the students being served.

Lessons allow for a standard approach, including video-based lesson presentations and guided skill practice. The program also offers a more experienced approach incorporating guided problem-solving exercises that allow students to apply their knowledge and skills. Materials used in the course include:

  • Easy-to-follow lesson plans
  • Online class presentations
  • Skill and scenario sheets
  • Performance evaluations
  • Written student exams
  • Student books

What to Expect

Our program’s ultimate goal is to assist companies in helping their teams learn life-saving skills. Our mission is to ensure that as many people as possible have the knowledge to save a life. Each class is designed for participants to gain knowledge and proficiency in bleeding control, which is done through a variety of class formats and lesson structures, each dependent on the class’s level of previous knowledge and experience.

Students will learn the technique for the first time in the initial class or be challenged to grow their knowledge through scenario-based problem-solving opportunities in the renewal course. They will also get a chance to apply what they’ve learned through hands-on guided practice that will help them become more confident in their skills and abilities.

Our classes are appropriate for individuals from various backgrounds and occupations. From healthcare professionals already familiar with bleeding control protocols to manufacturing warehouse employees who want to be prepared in the event of a traumatic incident, our training can teach just about anyone what they need to know to stop someone from bleeding out.

Our Classes

As required for Stop the Bleed training, all of our instructors are HSI-backed and authorized to teach first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)/automated external defibrillator (AED) techniques to others. You can rest assured every course is taught by someone qualified and knowledgeable about how to save lives in emergency situations.

Our trainings maintain an appropriate student-to-instructor ratio (SIR) to ensure every student can learn in an optimal environment and get the individualized attention they need. The ideal ratio is 6:1. However, we allow a maximum SIR of 24:1. In performance evaluation situations, the maximum ratio is 2:1 so that instructors can ensure information retention and technique mastery.

We also take special care to maintain the proper student-to-bleeding control equipment (BCE) ratio. The ideal ratio is four students to one set of BCE. However, we allow a maximum ratio of 6:1 to ensure that all students have hands-on experience with our training and ample opportunities to practice.

The BCE we use for our training courses include:

  • Bleeding control simulators
  • Windlass rod or ratcheting tourniquets
  • Clean gauze, gauze sponges, or trauma dressings
  • Clean hand towels
  • Clean bandages or clean strips of clothing
  • Ridgid, stick-like objects for the windlass

Using real-world materials, these items allow students to practice the full Stop the Bleed technique.

Certifications

To obtain Stop the Bleed certification, students must complete the entire course, complete a performance evaluation/skills test, and demonstrate achievement of the required skills. Students who become certified after the training will receive an authentic HSI certification card with their class completion date. Regardless of test completion, all students are eligible to receive a Recognition of Participation (ROP) document.

Stop the Bleed certification expires after two years. Students must complete a full renewal class and recertify by passing a performance evaluation before the two-year initial certification period is up to maintain their certified status.

The benefits of having an up-to-date Stop the Bleed certificate are significant. You and your staff will know you have completed and demonstrated proficiency in a world-class curriculum backed by the U.S. Department of Defense. Your team will also be confident that they’re equipped to save lives when the unthinkable happens.
